If we had a passport at Doghead Simulations it would almost be full. We’ve shown off rumii, our VR education and collaboration platform, in Spain, England, Australia, Netherlands, Brazil and that’s just in the last three months of 2018.
Hey friends of Doghead Simulations!
We have been up to a lot recently and have some exciting announcements for you. Here’s a note from our CEO to kick-off this month’s newsletter!
“We’ve been a busy bunch this year at Doghead Simulations. We’ve got great market traction, monthly, recurring revenue and exciting product updates. But the one thing we’re most proud of is how happy our customer are with rumii. We’re all working very hard to execute on our blockbuster strategy to fundamentally improve the way that people educate and communicate and the future is bright. One of the most exciting things for all of us on this journey is how we are connecting people across the globe and doing our part to improve our world by shrinking it. If I could describe rumii in one word, it would be... unification. rumii is unifying our world in ways we’ve never seen before. We’re linking the two-dimensional screens of the digital world in front of us with the 3-dimensional physical world around us. rumii is having the unifying effect of bridging social class, closing the resource gap and freeing our distinct human capabilities to simulate, visualize and interact across each of our very personal and unique realities. We’ll soon look back and marvel at what we once thought to be impossible, but is now a very real and normal part of our daily lives. rumii is a central part of our new extended reality and at the forefront of the world’s next computing platform and here’s the kicker… it’s already here!” - Mat Chacon (@TheVRCEO)
Merging Realities: First All-Day in VR Conference Held In rumii
This past month rumii was chosen as the platform of choice to hold the first all day in virtual reality conference -. Merging Realities. The event was organized by Lethbridge College to showcase speakers who spoke on education and VR. It was a highly successful event with over 150 global attendees in rumii throughout the day as well as non-VR viewers through livestreaming on Twitch. This event was truly a historic event not only for our company to showcase rumii, but for the future of our industry to show off the ways virtual reality can be used to connect the world. Merging Realities in rumii proved the worth of virtual reality for Human-to-Human (H2H) interaction.

Mat Chacon, CEO of Doghead Simulations, will be giving a keynote titled “Educating Across Realities Bridging distance, time and scale in education and training” at the 9th Annual Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, CA this year. In this age of XR, people will no longer go to school… they will simply attend school. XR is linking the two-dimensional screens of the digital world in front of us with the 3-dimensional physical world around us. This is having the unifying effect of bridging social class, closing the resource gap and freeing our distinct human capabilities to simulate, visualize and interact across each of our unique realities.

Orlando, Florida is a place of magic and mystery. It was certainly a magical week for Doghead Simulations.
The Doghead Simulations team gathered in Florida for a momentous week. We have been a company for approximately 78 weeks and were now preparing to open our very own office. For the past year and a half, we have worked remotely, from home or co-working spaces, across the globe. From Seattle to Orlando, to Sao Paolo, Brazil, and even New Zealand, we met and worked inside virtual reality.
For many of the Doghead team, it was their first time meeting each other outside of virtual reality. That didn’t seem to stop the instantaneous “click” the team members felt. We’ve seen each other’s avatars countless times. Voices, hand gestures, and head movements are natural in rumii. When we saw our human selves it was as if we were old comrades building the future of communication.
November 16, 2017, we formally announced our partnership with Full Sail University during our ribbon cutting. We revealed an office space on Full Sail’s campus. The Doghead Simulation’s logo shown brightly against the dark glass of the office windows. Blue and black striped sidewalk guides guests to our door. Once inside, visitors are welcomed by the rumii logo. A chalkboard wall displays Doghead Simulations expertly drawn by Full Sail artists (Scott H. and Traci B.)
No virtual reality office is complete without gear. Tables are pushed to the edges of the room leaving an open space in the middle for people to work and move in virtual reality. Two HTC Vive lighthouses sit in the corners. An Acer MR headset and controllers sit on a desk below a smart TV that displays what those in VR are experiencing.
The day of the ribbon cutting was filled with excitement. The weather in Florida was perfect. The sky was clear and the sun shone. Garry Jones, president, and co-founder of Full Sail University introduced the crowd to the unveiling of the rumii office on the Full Sail University Campus. He then introduced the four co-founders: Mat Chacon, Lily Snyder, Elbert Perez, and Chance Glasco.
Each co-founder expressed their thanks to Full Sail for the meaningful partnership with Doghead Simulations, and what the new office along with the launch of rumii.net meant for both organizations.
Mat Chacon, CEO of Doghead Simulations, praised the Doghead Simulations team and thanked Full Sail saying, “All of us here at Doghead Simulations are really excited to be part of the Full Sail Family. The opening of the U.S. Eastern Headquarters in Orlando, Florida will not only allow us to grow across the U.S., but will be a launching pad for the rest of the world.”
The four co-founders along with Garry Jones, Isis Jones, CIO at Full Sail University, and the mayor of Winter Park, FL, Steve Leary, cut the ribbon to the cheer from the crowd.
For the Doghead Team, the most exciting part was giving Full Sail students and staff a chance to try rumii (available at rumii.net) first hand. Students lined down the sidewalk to enter the virtual world of collaboration. Doghead team members Will Fitzgerald and Justin Gallo virtually walked students and staff through the features in rumii. Amanda Sweaton ran the demos from the office. The biggest impact rumii had on ribbon cutting guests was how real it felt to talk to and interact with others inside rumii’s virtual world. Some said they were skeptics of VR until they saw rumii avatars turn their heads, blink, and talk with opening and closing of the avatar’s mouth. Hand gestures and movements are so natural, people forget they are in virtual reality.
We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our team has shown to each other and the company in the past year and a half. We strongly believe that we are changing the world for the better by improving the way people collaborate.
Full Sail University’s partnership with our company shows the value of virtual reality technology and our software for education and the enterprise. Thank you Full Sail for your unwavering support in our team and our mission!
Announcing our partnership with Full Sail, opening our U.S. Eastern Headquarters, and launching rumii.net are huge steps for our startup. We have come a long way from pitching our prototype of rumii in Beijing, China over a year ago.
However, we are only just getting started. This ribbon cutting has only motivated us to push harder. We can’t wait to show you what we come up with next.
Who gives their product away for free? The whole point of building something is to make money, right?
That’s not the point for us at Doghead Simulations. For us, the point of our product is to make the world a better place. We’re doing that through a technology called virtual reality. We discovered that the real power of VR is its ability to bring the real-life human to human experience to a digital medium.
For the first time in history, humans can connect and interact from across the world as if they were in the same room (or coffee shop or on top of the Eiffel Tower).
How does this help make the world a better place? It starts with work. In order for people to enjoy the things that truly fulfill them, they have to finish work first. Using our product, rumii, at work or for class, makes the work/life balance real. Instead of spending the week flying across the country and staying at a hotel, business people can now meet with each other from the comfort of their own home or office. They have the same experience as they would in real life, but through their virtual avatars.
We’re giving our VR software, rumii, away for free because we want teams to see first hand how we’re transforming the business meeting. We’re bringing online meetings into the 21st century with virtual reality so that team members can spend time where it counts; with family, friends, or hobbies.
We believe in VR transforming the conference call experience. We want you to see for yourself how to have meaningful interactions with co-workers and clients from wherever you are in the world.
